The XXII Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Iberarchives Programme was held on 18 and 19 February 2020. It was attended by the National Archival Authorities of the countries that have joined the Programme, Enrique Vargas from the Ibero-American General Secretariat of SEGIB, Diego Mayoral from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation AECID and Carmen Marcos representing the Organisation of Ibero-American States OEI, as well as Cristina Díaz, as Technical Secretary of Iberarchivos.
During the meeting, the new president of the Intergovernmental Council was appointed, Silvestre Almeida Lacerda, who is currently the Director General of Books, Archives and Libraries in Portugal.
The representatives of the General National Archives of Argentina and Peru continue as members of the Programme’s Executive Committee, and Alexander Barquero, Director of the National Archives of Costa Rica, was appointed as a new member of this Committee at the meeting in Seville.
The participants in the meeting made a significant gesture of farewell to recognise the work and commitment of Alicia Casas, Director of the General Archives of the Nation of Uruguay, who has completed her duties as President of the Iberarchivos Intergovernmental Council.
Among the most important activities of the meeting, 37 archival projects were approved for the XXI call in 2019, which will receive funding for their implementation and which can be consulted here.
Another highlight was the approval of the 2020 Annual Operating Plan, which is part of the 2019-2021 Strategic Plan and will govern Iberarchivos’ actions.
The 22nd Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Iberarchivos was an open forum, full of important contributions on archival matters, which allowed for closer ties of solidarity for the promotion and dissemination of the documentary heritage of Ibero-America.
