After three days of intense sessions in Havana, the XXIX Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Iberarchivos comes to an end, leaving behind important agreements and renewals in its management structure.
On 3 March, Ms. Carmen Campos (National Archives of Costa Rica) was elected as the new president of the Intergovernmental Council for a period of three years. In addition, Mr. Mauricio Vázquez (Archivo General de la Nación de Uruguay), Ms. Isbel Vivar (Archivo Nacional de la República de Cuba) and Mr. José Vílchez (Archivo General de la Nación de República Dominicana) joined the Executive Committee for a period of 2 years.
During the meeting, key decisions were taken on the calls for applications for grants for archival projects, details of which will be announced shortly through the programme’s official channels.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the progress of the National System of Records Management and Archives of Cuba, highlighting its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. This presentation was given by Martha Ferriol Marchena and Maryuska Hernández Reyes.
We also had the intervention of Yorlis Delgado, winner of the II Iberarchivos Research Award, who shared the results of his work.
On the same day, the coordinators Carmen Campos, Isbel Vivar and Marcelo Nogueira presented the “Technical guide on the conservation of archives in tropical climates and low resources”, which will be made available to the public soon.
To close the event on 4 March, the representatives visited the National Archive of the Republic, where theJikji Awardreceived by Iberarchivos in 2018 in recognition of its work in the preservation of and access to documentary heritagewas presented.
The Jikji, which reflects the fundamental principles of Zen Buddhism, will be exhibited in various Cuban heritage institutions before being presented next year in Panama, the host country of the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Iberarchivos.
