In an effort to highlight the richness and diversity of the documental heritage of Ibero-America, an innovative publication has been launched that compiles all the nominations included in the Memory of the World Programme until 2024. This project, coordinated by the Technical Unit of Iberarchives, offers a unique tool for learning about and valuing documents of universal relevance that reflect the histories, cultures and connections between the countries of the region.
The idea for this publication arose in the framework of the Workshop for the Promotion of Cooperation Projects among Iberarchivos members, held in July 2024 in Santiago de Chile and subsidised by UNESCO’s International Center for Documental Heritage (ICDH). During the event, the importance of strengthening the visibility of the documents registered in the Memory of the World Programme and of promoting their accessibility for current and future generations was underlined.
Each document included in this work tells a unique story, connecting the past with the present and offering a window into the understanding of the cultural roots of Ibero-America. This compilation not only preserves the collective memory, but also highlights the impact of collaborative work among member countries to safeguard and make known their documental heritage.
The publication, which brings together centuries of history and heritage, promises to become an essential reference for researchers, academics and anyone interested in exploring the cultural connections and documental wealth of the region. This ambitious project reinforces the commitment of Ibero-American countries to the preservation of their historical memory and their projection on the global stage.
