The general aim of the University of Zaragoza’s project was to give visibility to women at the University of Zaragoza, who stood out in different branches of knowledge and were pioneers in the field of equality. Among them, María Moliner Ruiz stands out in particular.

The present document is the testimony of the splendid academic journey through the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the incomparable Spanish archivist, librarian, philologist and lexicographer as well as author of the Diccionario de Uso del Español (Dictionary of Spanish Usage).

In María Moliner’s personal student file we can access her school identity card, with her signature and photograph, as well as a summary of her marks in the ordinary and extraordinary exams she sat from the 1918/1919 to the 1921/1922 academic year. His academic brilliance during his years of study at the faculty, with 10 honours, is still surprising.

María Moliner took her degree exams on 29 September 1921 and obtained the grade of “sobresaliente” (outstanding). The culmination of her exceptional time at the University of Zaragoza was the Extraordinary Prize.

The document also includes the handwritten application for enrolment in the different subjects of the History section addressed to the dean of the faculty, the academic certification of having studied at the Cardenal Cisneros Institute in Madrid and at the General and Technical Institute of Zaragoza (now the Goya Institute) and the different applications to be admitted with honours in different subjects. From the latter applications we can find out the number María Moliner occupied in each of these subjects, being number 1 in Numismatics and Epigraphy, for example.

The Archive of the University of Saragossa also preserves María Moliner’s bachelor’s degree file, which includes the exercise with six pages written in her own handwriting for obtaining the degree.
