The Iberarchivos cooperation programme congratulates MSc Isbel Vivar González on her recent appointment as the new director of the National Archives of the Republic of Cuba.

We also thank MSc Martha Marina Ferriol Marchena for her 12 years at the head of the archive.

She has a degree in Education, specialising in History and Social Sciences, from the Instituto Superior Pedagógico “Enrique J. Varona”, and a master’s degree in Document Management and Archive Administration from the International University of Andalusia in Spain.

With 40 years’ experience in the sector, she has represented Cuba before international organisations. Founder of the National Historical Memory Commission.

She has participated in numerous research projects for more than 30 years and has contributed significantly to the training of new generations in areas such as History and Information Sciences, participating in the counselling of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as teaching.

In addition, he has played a crucial role in improving the National Document Management and Archives System, leading working groups and contributing to the development of important legal regulations in Cuba. Her achievements include participating in the creation of decrees and bills related to archives and transparency.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous recognitions and distinctions, both locally and nationally, including the status of “Distinguished Guest” of Old Havana and the Jesús Menéndez Medal. His work goes beyond archive management, as he has tirelessly defended the recognition of archivists and the importance of preserving the country’s historical memory. Her leadership and wisdom have left a significant mark not only on the country’s history, but also on the people who have shared the profession with her.

Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage Conservation, honours degree in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration, Associate Researcher and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts in Cultural Heritage Conservation at the Universidad de las Artes-ISA.

With 15 years’ experience in document management, she has taken part in more than 40 postgraduate courses and more than 30 national and international events with more than 50 presentations, all related to chemistry applied to documents and the conservation of documentary heritage.

He also stands out for his contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate training in Cuba and Venezuela (courses, workshops, training and master’s degrees) and has supervised more than 20 diploma and master’s theses.
