The National Archives of the Republic of Cuba held the workshop “Emergency management in archives for disaster risk reduction” on 26-28 June in Havana and also by videoconference, which allowed the attendance of archivists from the National and General Archives of #Iberoamerica.
This workshop, which is the reformulation of project 2015/047, which could not be implemented, is linked to the emergency management that must be carried out in the archives to reduce the risk of disasters, which are becoming more frequent and are increasing even more with climate change, which favours not only the quantity but also the magnitude of the disasters that occur. Emergency management must also take into account epidemiological emergencies which, although they do not directly damage the documents, do affect the personnel who carry out this work, as in the case of COVID-19.
The workshop was a forum for sharing knowledge and making the most of their interdisciplinary training.
It was given by:
– MSc. Sonia María Merizalde Aguirre, from Ecuador, who spoke on the development of Development of a Conservation Plan.
– Dr. Natalia Ríos Martínez, from Chile, dealt with the evolution of conservation and how to adapt the management model to documentary heritage.
– Dr. Sofía Flavia Borrego Alonso, from Cuba, spoke about the management of disaster risk reduction in a nation’s documentary heritage.
The workshop was opened by the President of the Intergovernmental Council of Iberarchivos, Mr Silvestre de Almeida Lacerda.
