The Iberarchivos cooperation programme congratulates Dr Ivonne Suárez Pinzón on her recent appointment as the new director of the General Archive of the Nation of Colombia. This appointment was made official by Decree 2024 of 14 October 2022 signed by the President and the Minister of Culture of Colombia.

Suárez has an extensive professional, academic and research career. A specialist in human rights issues, in her last job she was the director of the Archivo de Memoria Oral para las Víctimas de la Universidad Industrial de Santander (AMOVI-UIS).

Ivonne is a historian graduated from the University of Antioquia (1983), with a Master’s degree in Hispanic and Hispano-American Studies from the Université De Franche Comté (Besançon, France), a PhD in Iberian and Ibero-American Studies from the same university and a Post-Doctorate in Social Networks from the Université Toulouse Le Mirail.

Throughout his professional life he has received several awards, such as the Order Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento awarded by the Departmental Assembly of Santander (2021), Honorable Mention National Prize for Senior Management 2016 Public Entities Builders of Peace, awarded by the Administrative Department of the Function.

He has also been a member of the International Council on Archives (ICA, 2007), the Society of French Hispanists (1996), the Research Laboratory of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (2007) and Corresponding Member of the Antioquian Academy of History (1995).
