Iberarchivos is pleased to present the new microsite of the project: “In the skin of our ancestors. Pandemic project”. This microsite is the result of the project presented by the Iberarchivos programme in 2020, to the call “The Programmes, Initiatives and Projects Affiliated to the COVID19” of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), who finally selected our candidacy (see the news published in the Portal Somos Iberoamérica: https: //www.somosiberoamerica.org/destacado/en-la-piel-de-nuestros-antepasados-el-proyecto-de-iberarchivos-para-aprender-de-pandemias-historicas/).

“In the skin of our ancestors” is an online educational resource aimed at primary school children between 9 and 12 years of age, to understand what archives are and what lessons we can learn about how pandemics were dealt with in the past.

This educational resource provides the academic community with a pedagogical tool that generates inclusive learning opportunities for children in Ibero-America during this period of unprecedented and sudden educational disruption.

Microsite: "In the skin of our ancestors".

The initiative aimed to develop this bilingual (Spanish/Portuguese) tool with five didactic units and a series of interactives, adapted to downloadable and printable formats for offline use.

For the Iberarchivos Programme, it has been a unique opportunity to make this innovative contribution in the field of virtual education, offered by the primary sources preserved in the archives of Ibero-America, since archives are testimony to the legacy of the past and key to understanding the present and future of humanity.

Thanks to the implementation of this project we create links between the youngest, the educational community of Ibero-America and the great treasures guarded by the archives, thus promoting access to and dissemination of the documentary heritage that contributes decisively to consolidating the Ibero-American Cultural Space.

We invite you to interact with this pedagogical tool to learn, through archival documents, how we faced and overcame other pandemics in the past.
