Iberarchivos would like to congratulate the entire Peruvian archival community that today celebrates the day of the Peruvian archivist. We would like to join in this great celebration that recognises the great work and commitment of archivists to preserve and provide access to the memory of Peru.

It is very important to highlight the archivists who do hard and constant work, but above all they are the ones in charge of collecting, managing, promoting and guaranteeing access to documents in each of Peru’s archives.

The Archivo General de la Nación (AGN) of Peru is a public institution founded in 1861 with the objective of guarding the historical archives of the former governmental institutions that took place during the colonial era.

On this important day we invite you to visit the different archives in Peru, including the AGN Peru, which in its initial collection comprises 28 linear kilometres of documents from colonial and republican times, preserving the records of the Royal Court of Lima, the archives of the former Minister of Finance and Commerce, public deeds, archives of the former haciendas expropriated by the Agrarian Reform, documents of the Holy Inquisition, among others.

The Archive also has approximately 2,500 digitised historical documents available on its website: https://agn.gob.pe/portal/.

Today more than ever we are very pleased to have the AGN Peru as a member of the Iberarchivos programme, through which a large number of archival projects have been supported in Peruvian territory.
