Cruces holds a PhD in History from the University of Malaga and has been a career civil servant in the Faculty of Archivists and Librarians since 1983.New Director of the General Archive of the Indies, Esther Cruces

She has previously worked as Director of the Provincial Historical Archive of Cordoba, Director of the General Archive of Andalusia and Director of the Provincial Historical Archive of Malaga. She has been Associate Professor of Archival Science at the UMA and President of the Section of Architectural Archives of the International Council on Archives. It is important to mention that she is an expert in the prestigious institution that she will now direct as she is a member of the Board of Trustees of the General Archive of the Indies.
