On behalf of Iberarchivos we extend our congratulations and recognition to the Dominican historian Roberto Cassá who was recently confirmed as director of the General Archive of the Nation in the Dominican Republic, a member country of the cooperation programme. This ratification came by means of decree 339-20 issued by the Executive of the Dominican Republic.
Historian Cassá was born in Santo Domingo in 1948. He graduated from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) with a degree in History and continued his studies at the Patricio Lumumba University in Moscow.
He also obtained Master’s and Doctorate degrees in History at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and was for more than 30 years a professor at the School of History and Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities, of the UASD and founder and director of its Institute of History.
Roberto Cassá became a state official in 2004, and has been director of the General Archive of the Nation in the Dominican Republic, a position in which he has been ratified by ex-Presidents Leonel Fernández and Danilo Medina.
It is important to mention that Cassá has written dozens of books and historical essays and has extensive experience in archival matters.
