Iberarchivos wishes to recognise and celebrate the International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day (Lesbian, Gay, Transsexual, Bisexual and Intersex, queer and + to allude to the rest of sexual and gender diversity), which is commemorated on 28 June. A date that aims to reinforce the visibility of this collective and to endorse the rights of equality and diversity.

The origin of this celebration dates back to 28 June 1969, when the Stonewall riots took place in New York, marking the beginning of the struggle for the rights of this group.

Iberarchivos expresses a strong commitment to equality and against discrimination based on gender identity, gender expression and sexual characteristics. As part of the cooperation programme’s contribution to this group and in favour of their historical memory, they have financed the project:

Among the objectives of this project are: to be a reference point of memory for research on the human rights of the LGBT population in Brazil and on social movements for the defence of sexual diversity. It is important to highlight that for the LGBT population of the city of Campinas, their memory and the production of their historical and social narratives on the struggle against discrimination are fundamental, as they show a way of social inclusion for this group.

Expected results of this project: 1) Technical processing of this documentation of the LGBT movement of Campinas, 2) Conservation and digitisation of the documentary heritage of the Campinas identity group, 3) Dissemination of the documentary collections of the LGBT movement and its struggle against sexual discrimination.

The archival cooperation programme has a priority line aimed at promoting non-discrimination and diversity, in which it is positively valued if the project contributes to combating discriminatory practices against vulnerable population groups (victims of human rights violations, migrant workers, displaced populations, LGTBIQ+ community, among others), which is why it promotes issues of inclusion and non-discrimination.

On this day of Pride for the LGTBIQ+ community, we would like to invite you to participate in the next call for Iberachivos, and continue joining forces to continue preserving the memory of this collective and the archives that show their struggle and effort, an arduous work that has made this collective visible.
