Since its creation in 2008, the International Archives Day proposed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) aims to emphasise the importance of archives as part of cultural heritage as well as one of the main sources of information. Archives provide significant evidence for the economic, political, social and cultural development of humankind.

That is why as part of the annual actions to commemorate the “International Archives Day” on this occasion “The International Council on Archives (ICA), the Latin American Archives Association (ALA) as well as the Iberarchivos cooperation programme invite colleagues, institutions, professionals and civil society from all over the world to reflect together on the role and social function of archives in the 21st century.

On this occasion, the use of the hastag #UnArchivoEs is promoted to exchange ideas, enrich concepts and diversify the discussion. It is important to highlight that archives constitute the heritage that is passed on from generation to generation, nurturing and safeguarding the collective memory of a society. That is why we want to hear from you and for you to tell us, for you, an archive is…?

Participate in the different social media platforms using the hastag #UnArchivoEs and complete the sentence with what it represents for you.

Remember that Iberarchivos is committed to the memory of the Ibero-American peoples, which is why it is essential to strengthen the bonds of solidarity and collaboration.
