At the last International Congress of Archives in Mexico City (November, 2017) the International Council on Archives (ICA) formulates the so-called Mexico City Declaration in which it reaffirms the continued commitment to the actions outlined in the Seoul Communiqué elaborated at the 20th Archives Congress held in this South Korean city in 2016.

The actions outlined in the Seoul Communiqué, which the ICA is committed to carry out over the next 4 years, are:

  • Recognition of documents as a unique and irreplaceable information resource.

  • The promotion of digital records preservation policies, including enduring preservation and accessibility

  • Sustainable funding and human resource development.
  • Supporting the strategic initiatives of international organisations,

The reading of the Mexico City Declaration was made by David Fricker, President of ICA and Mercedes de Vega, President of the ALA and Director of the Archivo General de la Nación (AGN), which together with UNESCO, organised this year’s global archival meeting in Mexico.
