The British Library is once again calling for applications for its“Archives in Peril” grants programme.
This ARCADIA-funded programme for the preservation of cultural heritage specifically aims to preserve endangered, neglected or deteriorating archival materials. Grants are provided for the relocation of endangered archival collections and their transfer to suitable premises, as well as for the formulation of digital copies to be held by local institutions and the British Library – copies of which will subsequently be made available on the programme’s website.
Since its inception, the programme has already funded 325 projects in 88 countries worldwide, with a total of £8 million in grants.
Specificity of the call:
- Archives must relate to a period of Pre-modern history – any period before industrialisation (bearing in mind that this period varies according to the society/country of the archives to be rescued).
- All types of “Archival Materials” are considered for the projects in question, including rare books, newspapers, audio and audio-visual materials, photography and manuscripts.
- Pilot research projects on the recovery of collections in specific regions or formats are welcome.
- It is essential that projects include local archives as partners.
This call will be open until 17 November.
