“Archives and Archivists in the knowledge society” is the title of this year’s XII Mercosur Archivology Congress. It will be held once again in Córdoba (Argentina) on 27, 28 and 29 September 2017.
The call for proposals is open until 1 March 2017, and the results will be communicated by the Academic Committee on 15 April 2017. The deadline for submission of full papers is 1 July 2017, and the deadline for submission of posters is 1 August 2017.
The first edition of this Congress was held in August 1996, in Paraná (Entre Ríos, Argentina) with professionals in the field. Since then, it has been held every two years, until the present day, effectively contributing advances in the development of Latin American Archivology.
There were several objectives:
- To regionalise the search for common solutions to manage documents and professionalise archives.
- To lead the discussion on the implementation of national policies.
- To promote the growth of archival activities.
Organised by the General and Historical Archive of the National University of Cordoba and the Association of Graduate Archivists of Cordoba, the event will take place within the framework of the centenary celebrations of the University Reform of 1918, a milestone event in Argentinean and Latin American universities, whose essential aim was to promote free thought and professional commitment to social reality, as factors of change and progress.
These congresses bring together specialists, professionals and workers with the aim of promoting the theoretical development of archival science in the region, and its practical application in archives in general. The aim: to guarantee citizens’ right of access to documentary heritage and public information, creating fraternal and academic ties within the Ibero-American archival community.
