Today, 10 November, it is five years since the Universal Declaration on Archives was adopted by UNESCO in Paris.

This declaration, translated into several languages, calls for the preservation and universal accessibility of the world’s documentary heritage. Archives guarantee human rights, establish a collective memory and support transparent and accountable governments. This declaration is a call to action and to seek the commitment of governments, decision-makers and the general public in relation to archival issues.

The ICA (International Council on Archives) invites archivists, archive managers and the general public to celebrate the anniversary of this universal declaration by publicising it.

By supporting the dissemination and preservation of archives we build a better future.
