In 2006, within the framework of the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, the Ibero-American Cultural Charter was signed in Montevideo.

What is the Ibero-American Cultural Charter?

  • A political project of great magnitude that lays the foundations for the structuring of an Ibero-American Cultural Space.
  • It is an instrument created to promote greater articulation and better cooperation between the countries of the region.
  • A tool that aims to promote a way of expressing oneself to the outside world with a coordinated voice in cultural matters.
  • A mechanism to promote cultural cooperation both in terms of policies and concrete activities.
  • It is a commitment to respect human rights, cultural rights, traditional cultures, Afro-descendants, indigenous migrants.
  • A bridge to link culture with other areas of development, such as education, science, health, etc.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the signing of that commitment, various commemorative and reflective activities will be held in Montevideo (Uruguay), from today until 16 November, with the intention of reinforcing and redefining the tasks of the Ibero-American Cultural Charter.
