On 1 September, Iberarchivos – ADAI Programme was honoured to be awarded the UNESCO/Jikji Prize of the Memory of the World Programme. The award ceremony took place in Cheongju, Republic of Korea, which also commemorated the inscription of the Jikji, or “Buljo jikji simche yojeol”, the oldest printed book with movable metal type.

The Jikji Prize is awarded every two years to individuals or organisations that have made a significant contribution to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage. Frank La Rue, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, underlined the exceptional contribution of Iberarchivos to the preservation of Ibero-American documentary heritage. Martha Marina Ferriol Marchena, Director of the National Archive of Cuba and President of Iberarchivos, and the Coordinator of the Technical Unit of Iberarchivos – ADAI Programme, Berta García del Real Marco, collected the award. They also participated with representatives of UNESCO and previous winners in a round table on Documentary Heritage and in the inaugural meeting of the International Association of Printing Museums, which was held in the framework of the Jikji Festival on 3 September.

We at Iberarchivos – ADAI Programme are very grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity to attend this event that brought together so many international professionals in the field of archiving.
