On 27 and 28 June, as every year, the Intergovernmental Committee Meeting of our Iberarchivos – ADAI(Support forthe Developmentof Ibero-American Archives) programme was held. On this occasion, the host country was the Dominican Republic and the meeting was held in the city of Santo Domingo.
The event was attended by 14 representatives of member countries of the programme and some guests, such as representatives of the Ibero-American General Secretariat(SEGIB) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation(AECID). The main topics discussed at this XVIII meeting were the appointment of a new president for the Iberarchivos – ADAI programme, the approval of budgets, the definition of some points of the strategic plan of the ADAI Programme and the annual Operational Plan, as well as the approval of the projects presented in the previous call (XVIII Call) and the bases for the next call (XIX Call).
Martha Ferriol Marchena, the director of the General Archive of the Nation of Cuba, was elected President to lead ADAI for the next two years. It should also be noted that, within the budgetary framework of the agenda and in an extraordinary way, as a result of the catastrophe in Ecuador, it was decided to grant this Ibero-American country, which is not a member of the programme, part of the budget of the ADAI projects in order to enable it to develop projects for the rescue and recovery of archives damaged by the earthquake.
Another key point on the agenda was the approval of the projects presented in the 2015 call – projects still pending – and the approval of the bases for the 2016 call. Grants were also approved for a total of 47 projects among those presented in the last Iberarchivos – ADAI call (XVIII Call).
For the next call, which opens on 15 June, the themes related to the strategic lines approved in the Annual Operational Plan were discussed and approved:
- Citizen access to archives;
- Improving the organisation, description, conservation and dissemination of documentary collections;
- Indigenous peoples and Afro-descendants;
- Women’s rights;
- Shared memory projects of the Ibero-American peoples;
- Archivistics in the Iberian tradition;
- Natural disasters and climatic phenomena;
- Scientific archives;
- Joint projects in collaboration with other Ibero-American cooperation programmes.
