On 27 and 28 June, as every year, the Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Ibero-American Archives Programme – ADAI(Support forthe Developmentof Ibero-American Archives) was held.

Among the topics regularly discussed each year – such as the approval of budgets and the definition of some points of the programme’s Strategic Plan and the annual Operational Plan – was the approval of the bases for the XIX Call for Grants for Archival Projects for this year 2016, which is currently open.

The ADAI programme is a cooperation and integration initiative of the Ibero-American countries articulated and ratified by the Ibero-American Summits of Heads of State and Government, for the promotion of access, organisation, description, conservation and dissemination of documentary heritage, which contributes decisively to the consolidation of the Ibero-American Cultural Space.

This call is based, like all previous calls, on the implementation of the programme of Support for the Development of Ibero-American Archives(ADAI) whose initiative was approved at the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in Oporto, Portugal, held in October 1998, and ratified in Havana in November 1999. Its objective is to grant aid for the development of archives or other institutions so that they can carry out projects that focus both on the preservation and dissemination of the Ibero-American documentary heritage and on technical training and capacity building in the archival field. In this way, the Programme promotes access to the region’s archives and culture for Ibero-American citizens, but also ensures administrative transparency and the exercise of fundamental rights, which are an indispensable basis for Development.

The projects must have a priority impact on the following topics included in the annual Operational Plan approved for the coming year:

  • Citizen access to archives;
  • Improving the organisation, description, conservation and dissemination of documentary collections; – Improving the organisation, description, conservation and dissemination of documentary collections
  • documentary collections;
  • Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples;
  • Women’s rights;
  • Shared memory projects of the Ibero-American peoples;
  • Archiving in the Iberian tradition;
  • Natural disasters and climatic phenomena;
  • Scientific archives;
  • Joint projects in collaboration with other Ibero-American cooperation programmes.

To be eligible for Iberarchivos – ADAI Programme grants, archives or other institutions must have their headquarters in any of the full member countries of the Ibero-American Summits of Heads of State and Government and actively participate in the Programme. Exceptionally, the members of the Intergovernmental Committee of Iberarchives – ADAI Programme may also unanimously grant aid to archives or other institutions located outside the aforementioned geographical area.
The amount of the grants awarded will not exceed 10,000 euros per project, with the applicant having to contribute at least 20% of the total cost. Moreover, projects may be developed in a maximum of 3 phases in successive calls for proposals.

The deadline for submission of applications will be from 15 July to 30 September 2016 and may be made by registered mail, courier or by hand at the Technical Office of the Technical Unit of Iberarchivos – ADAI Programme in Madrid (Spain).

The resolution of this call will be made at the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Iberarchivos – ADAI Programme, which will preferably take place during the first half of 2017.
